Vince asked:
Okay, I have now been looking for Home theaters for quite a while and I am interested in the 500's or the 600's model. Would it be cheaper to build a 578WF, meaning buy the receiver, front, back speakers, separately and combine them. What are your tips and suggestions in terms of the home theater? Thanks everyone.
It’s more expensive to put your own system together and there are pro’s and con’s. DAV systems are all in one. When one thing goes wrong, your whole system goes in to the shop. In the future you can afford a better dvd player…maybe blu ray? Check the jack field on a DAV system. There isn’t one. Just speaker outputs. They do have an all in one remote, but DAV systems are for neat freaks, who are budget minded, in my opinion.
If i where you i would stay away from sony products, they are over priced and don’t last long. Sony 32″ tv $1500, 34″ HD tv $4,000, DVD 7000 ($1,000), 7700 ($1,00) all didn’t last long 4 years mas. Onkyo system is a much better choice (7.1 system reciever and speakeer with HDMI connection), you can go to Fry’s Electronics and demo the system if you are close to one. Panasonic or Sumsang is also good for HTB. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read reviews for Home Theater In Box and then select a system. Hope this helps and enjoy what ever you get.
Depends how many “sources” you want to use for surround.
If it is only the DVD player and maybe one more source, the SONY system will be OK. If you want to connect a set-top box, the xbox, the TV, etc, then you need a system with more inputs and more flexibility.
