like to see if it is plausable to hookup a ps3,instead of buying a home theater in a box,as to recieve a sattelite signal and watch dvd's. I don't listen to the stereo radio on my home theater . I have a 5.1 setup in speakers already so why buy a reciever I don't need..whats your opion?
Im guessing a home theatre in a box is a t.v. and you need a t.v. to run a playstation 3. Also playstation 3 can play dvd’s.
The PS3 can play games and play your blueray and regular DVDs, but that’s it. To drive your 5.1 setup you will need an amplifier and digital connections from the amplifier to the PS3. Also for satellite no matter which path you take you will need a separate receiver for the your satellite company to decode the channels.
The Sony PlayStation 3 is indeed viable as the primary high definition DVD player in an AV system. I know at least one person who is using his PlayStation 3 to double as his primary high definition source.
If you want the most out of the latest high definition DVD, such as advanced 5.1-7.1 surround sound technology, you will need to consider purchasing a HDMI(1.3)/HDCP equipped AV receiver in the near future.
Though Sony’s PlayStation 3 may not appeal to many videophiles it does have its merits. While several of the new AV technologies are far from mature using a multipurpose device such as Sony’s PlayStation 3 may help to lower the risk of investing in such new consumer electronics technologies while maximizing value.
